Why We Work (Nehemiah 3:1-32)

Passage:  Nehemiah 3:1-32

Main Point:  We want to see Jesus in each life, family, and in our church.

I. We work to glorify God.
         A. Jesus did not come to maintain the status quo.  (Ephesians 2:10)
                    1.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
                         which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
                    2.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,

         B. Our purpose and motivation unite us.
         C. We are His – the work is His.

II. Our work has a loving design.
        
A. The work has leaders.
         B. The workers are different from one another.  (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
         C. Workers will be held accountable.
         D. The work and workers are united.


III. Our work reveals Jesus Christ.



         A. Our work rests on Jesus crucified and risen.
         B. Jesus calls us to be fishers of men.
         C. Cast off the old nature by putting on Christ.
         D. Our work requires Christ-like humility.
         E. Turn from sin and pursue holiness.
         F. Be controlled by the Spirit, not the flesh.
         G. Read the Bible for spiritual growth.
         H. Our struggle is spiritual, so be ready!  (Ephesians 6:10-12a)
         I. Live like Jesus will return tomorrow.
         J. Our work will be inspected by the Lord!  (1 Corinthians 15:58)
