Passage:  1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

Main Point:  The Gospel-goal is to see believers rooted and growing in Christ.

I. Grow together in the love of the Lord. (v.1-5)
            A. Genuine love makes genuine sacrifices.

            B. There is nothing like the support of a faithful friend.

            C. Suffering is the Christian’s expectation.
            D. God tests to build; Satan tries to make us useless.  (cf. Hebrews 5:8;
1 Corinthians 10:10-15)

II. Grow up in the Word. (v.6-8)
            A. Growing into Christlikeness is God’s plan for us.
            B. Paul wrote a letter to build them up.
            C. I can stand firm if I am in God’s Word.

III. Pray, because we cannot do it on our own. (v.9-13)
            A. Faith not tested cannot be trusted.
            B. The more I trust God, the more I can love others.
            C. Conduct reveals character.
