The Father’s Challenge (Psalm 78:1-8)

Passage:  Psalm 78:1-8

Main Point:  Walk in the light of the Word and speak of the Gospel so others will trust in the God who saves.

I. God revealed Himself so we might know Him and live. (1-4)
            A. We are commanded to pay careful attention to the Word of God.
            B. Israel’s history teaches me about God’s grace and warns me of sin.
            C. A father’s instruction is strengthened by attitude and action.
            D. To not talk of the truth about God is to conceal and hide God.

II. Hearing God’s revelation changes hearts and futures. (4-8)
            A. We must trust God’s Word as authoritative for all of life.
            B. God designed the home to be where kids would learn of Him.
                 (cf. Deuteronomy 4:9; 6:7-9; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4; 1 Timothy 5:8)
            C. We teach our kids about God so our grandkids might know God.
            D. Pray that our kids will hope in God and remember his works.  (cf. 1 Timothy 1:5)
