New Things Have Come (2 Corinthians 5:9-21)

Passage:  2 Corinthians 5:9-21

Main Point:  The judgment, love and call of Christ moves us forward in faith.

I. Eternal perspective results in healthy fear. (9-13)
            A. All my motives will be exposed.
            B. Future judgment moved Paul to evangelize.  (Psalm 90:12)
            C. Choose to live for self or live for God.

II. Christ-love defeats self-love. (14-17)
            A. The cross paints a picture of God’s love for me.
            B. He died so I could die and live for him.  (Romans 6; Galatians 2:20)
            C. I must actively participate in this new life.  (Romans 6:4; Ephesians 4:23-5:2)

III. Our commission is reconciliation (18-21)
            A. We were enemies of God and each other.  (cf. Romans 5:8-11)
            B. Prioritize the message of reconciliation.  (cf. 2 Timothy 2:3-4)
            C. Trust Jesus to become God’s righteousness.
