Elohim:  The Powerful Creator (Genesis 1:1)

Main Point:  God uses His creative power for the good of His creation.

I. Elohim describes God’s creative power.
            A. “In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.”  (Genesis 1:1)
            B. Elohim is used 2550 times in the Old Testament.
            C. Elohim is plural.  (Genesis 1:26)

II. Elohim is the common name for God.
           
A. It was used by pagans to describe idols.  (Genesis 31:30)
            B. Elohim describes the greatness of God.

III. Elohim describes God’s power for His people.
            A. He gives help in our problems.
            B. He gives comfort in our fears.
            C. He gives strength in our weaknesses.
            D. He is eternal in the midst of all things temporal.
