Character Of A Christian – Humility (Philippians 2:3-9)

Passage:  Philippians 2:3-9

Main Point:  God is opposed to the proud.

I. Humility means recognizing our limits.
            A. Humility is the opposite of pride.
            B. Humility is not a low self-image.
            C. Humility is something we put on willingly.
            D. Humiliation is something forced on by another.

II. Jesus walked in humility.  (Philippians 2:3-9)
            A. Jesus was willing to let go.  (v6)
            B. Jesus was willing to lower Himself.  (v7)
            C. Jesus was willing to be obedient.  (v8)

III. Jesus instructs us in humility.
            A. We admit our limitations.  (John 5:19)
            B. We seek the will of God.  (John 6:38)
            C. We are not driven by worldly honor.  (John 5:41)
            D. We do not seek to promote ourselves.  (John 8:50)
            E. We seek to serve others.  (Luke 22:24-27)
