I. Grace stops the work of sin. (6:1-2
A. You can be justified by grace. (v; cf. 5:20)
B. Grace doesn’t justify sin. (v1-2; cf. Jude 1:4)
C. Grace stops your sinful nature. (v2)
1. You can still choose to sin.
2. You are no longer compelled to sin.
II. Grace begins the work of new life. (6:3-4)
A. Your association to Adam’s sin is cut off. (3-4)
B. You are identified as part of Jesus’ family tree. (v4)
1. Christ’s death, burial and resurrection become yours.
2. Your new life is supposed to replace the old life.
III. Grace continues to work in your life. (6:5-7)
A. You are inseparably one with Jesus. (v5)
B. You discover that your sin-nature is neutralized. (v6)
C. You have the desire and power to do what is right. (v7)
