Not My Way, But His (Genesis 37:1-36)

Main Point:  Walk a step at a time, as the God of mercy brings light into darkness and the dead back to life.

I. Our dark world and my flesh hate the Way of God.  (v. 1-11)
            A. My heart longs for something that only God provides.
            B. Jesus was hated by His brethren for his words.
            C. Discontent with God is Satan’s classic tactic.  (v. 11, cf. Mark 15:11)

II. God directs His people for His purposes in his Way.  (v. 12-18)
           
A. Joseph’s early faith looked like obedience and perseverance.
            B. Doing right does not guarantee that it goes right.

III. God’s Way to life must lead through death.  (v. 19-36)
            A. God delivered Joseph from his murdering brothers.
            B. Jacob’s family is saved through the loss of the son.
            C. Sin has brought death into every human family.
            D. We live and rejoice because our Savior lives.
