Passage:  Genesis 39-40

Main Point:  God is always accomplishing His plan for His people to bless and be blessed.

I. God uses His people to bring His blessing into the world (v.1-6)
            A. God sent Joseph into captivity to save Israel.  (cf. Ps. 105:17-18)
            B. I am blessed as I bring Jesus into my household.

II. God uses temptation to build up self-control. (v.7-20)
            A. Joseph chose to honor God rather than take what came along.
            B. God’s people are tested so obedience is revealed.
            C. God’s plan to bless relies in part on our obedient response to Him.  (cf. Gen. 18:19)

III. God uses tribulation to build up God-dependence (21-40:23)
            A. Joseph learned to wait on God.
            B. Joseph learned to be kind in tribulation.
            C. Joseph learned to hear from God.
            D. Joseph learned salvation is not from man, but from God.
