Passage:  Daniel 1

Main Point:  God controls every circumstance, so don’t lose hope.

I. God is in control.
         A. Nebuchadnezzar was a tool in God’s hand.
         B. Daniel was a tool in God’s hand.

II. Therefore, stay committed to Christ.
         A. Daniel refused to defile himself.
                  1.  He faced rationalization.
                  2.  He faced temptation.
                  3.  He faced fear.
                  4.  He faced loneliness.
                  5.  He faced self–pity.
         B. Daniel was creative in his obedience.
                  1.  He was ready with a counter offer.
                  2.  He was also ready to die.
         C. God protects those who trust Him.
                  1.  Sometimes we live.
                  2.  Sometimes we die.

III. God wants us to obey Him.
            A. Daniel is promoted.
            B. We learn three principles.
                        1.  Anyone can write on a blank slate.
                        2.  The decision to obey is made in peace and safety.
                        3.  Never underestimate God’s ability to change trials into triumphs.
