Passage:  James 4:7

Main Point:  The mature Christian is submitted to God.

I. Submission to God defeats the devil.  (James 4:7)
            A. Submission is an act of wisdom.
                        1.  Individualism leads to loneliness.
                        2.  Cooperation is corrupted by sin.
                        3.  The ideal is cooperation under a perfect rule.
            B. Submission is an act of the will.
            C. The devil is defeated by a submitted believer.

II. Submission to God defeats the flesh.  (Romans 8:5-8)
            A. The flesh refers to the desires of the old nature.
            B. Submitting to God means denying self.

III. Submission to God defeats the world.  (Ephesians 5:21)
            A. Our motive is reverence for Christ.
            B. We are called to show the world a better way.
