A Matter of Grace (Mark 2:18-3:6)

Main Point:  Grace threatens the self-justified and frees us from condemnation.

I. Grace abolishes works-based justification. (18-22)
            A. A religion of works is a system of condemnation.
            B. The proper attitude of Christ’s disciples is joy.
            C. Faith in Jesus plus anything denies grace.

II. Grace is the expression of God’s love and compassion. (23-28)
            A. We are too quick to make rules and too slow to give grace.
            B. The clarity of scripture cuts the fog of opinion and tradition.
            C. Sabbath was made to be a blessing for man, not a tyrant.
            D. Jesus marks Sabbath with gladness, not sadness.

III. Grace frees us from condemnations’ control. (1-6)
            A. Pharisaic fault-finding is spiritual blindness.
            B. Jesus still calls us to surrender hard hearts.
            C. The world unites to oppose the Grace revolution.
