Jehovah Mekaddishkem (Exodus 31:13)

Passage:  Exodus 31:13

Main Point:  Because God is Holy, His people must be holy.

I. God is the one who sanctifies.
            A. Kadash means “consecrated, set apart.  (Exodus 31:13)
                        1.  Here, the word means to cause to be holy.
            B. The word applies to:
                        1.  Places – the temple, Mount Sinai.
                        2.  Things – articles in the temple.
                        3.  People – Israel, the priests, believers.
                        4.  God – He is set apart.

II. God makes His people holy.
            A. God teaches us obedience.
            B. God wants us to desire holiness.  (Leviticus 20:7-8)

III. God’s holiness addresses our sinfulness.
            A. God is not weak and He is able to deliver us.
            B. Because God is holy He can be trusted.
            C. Because God is holy He calls us to holiness.
