Passage:  Romans 9:14-24

Main Point:  God is wise enough to rule with justice and yet show mercy.

I. God is both just and merciful.  (v. 14-16)
            A. God is sovereign not dependent.
            B. God is also merciful.

II. God’s mercy is evident even on His opponent.  (v. 17-18)
            A. Pharaoh received mercy to display God’s power.
            B. Pharaoh’s heart was hard and God permitted it.
                (Not predestined to be hard, but allowed to continue his own choice to display God’s power)

III. God’s sovereignty is not man’s excuse.  (v. 19-24)
            A. It is arrogance to assume we have God’s view.
            B. God’s patience reveals His ultimate glory.
