Passage:  Romans 7:1-6

Main Point:  Our union with Christ results in fruitfulness of great worth.

I. Marital law illustrates how death affects a covenant.  (1-3)
            A. Law only governs the living.
            B. The covenant of marriage ends with death.

II. The believer is now in union with Christ.  (4-6)
            A. Death ended the old so we may join the new
                        1. It was the death of Christ that ended the old.
                        2. We now bear fruit in the new union.
            B. We previously bore fruit for death.
            C. Now we serve in the new way of the Spirit.

III. We bear fruit with the help of God’s Spirit.
            A. We are sealed by the Spirit.   Eph. 1:13, 14
            B. We are filled with the Spirit.   Eph. 5:18
            C. We bear fruit of the Spirit.   Gal. 5:22, 23
