A Warning to the Wanderer (Hebrews 5:11-6:8)

Passage:  Hebrews 5:11 – 6:8

Main Point:  Believers are warned that maturity demands effort and being lazy can lead to permanent childishness in spiritual things.

I. Spiritual understanding takes work.  (v 5:11 – 6:2)
            A. Some are too lazy to study.
            B. Some are on formula not steak.
            C. Maturity is achieved by pressing on.

II. Spiritual childishness can be permanent.  (v 6:3-6)
            A. God is the answer to change.
            B. The work of God is real, and life changing.
                        1. – once enlightened
                        2. – tasted the heavenly gift
                        3. – companions with the Holy Spirit
                        4. – tasted God’s good Word
                        5. – (tasted) the powers of the coming age
            C. One cannot be “resaved”.

III. The result of immaturity is worthless works.  (v 6:7-8)
            A. The ground receives rain.
            B. The fruits are either useful or burned.
