Passage:  Genesis 17:1-27

Main Point:  Cast off the dead works of the past and walk forward in faith.

I. Don’t settle on quick-fixes or human strength.   (1-3a)
            A. El Shaddai – God is all-powerful and all-sufficient.
            B. Fearing and knowing God results in a life of integrity.
            C. Respond to God’s Word with worship

II. God’s people trust in God’s promises.  (4-18)
            A. Knowing God changes the way I look at my future.
            B. God’s people are marked by separation, purity and faith. (Deuteronomy 30:6).
            C. Faith must be pushed beyond its present limits to grow.

III. God’s people rejoice in the newness of Christ’s life.  (19-26)
            A. Surrender your Ishmael and trust God’s perfect plan.
            B. God does not forget us, but reminds us of his faithfulness.
            C. Faith results in obedience.
