Passage:  Joshua 9:1-27

Main Point:  Guard against deception by being grounded in scripture and close to Jesus Christ.

I. God’s justice is perfect. (v.1-2)
            A. The world unites in opposition against God. (cf.  Psalm 2:1-3)
            B. Canaanites and Israelites were both exiled because of sin.
            (Deuteronomy 7:1-8; 2 Kings 17:7-15 & 21:2,6,9)

II. Satan’s deception is subtle. (v.3-15)
            A. The enemy uses God’s Word against God’s people.
            B. Lies and flattery manipulate pity and pride.
            C. Faith waits on the Lord.

III. God’s grace is unending. (v.16-27)
            A. God takes faithfulness seriously because He is faithful.  (Numbers 30:2)
            B. God used Joshua’s failure.
            C. God redeems Canaanites and sinners like us.  (cf. Jude)
