The Worry Vaccine

God is clear about worrying and panic: DON’T DO IT! Instead, He gives us something else to do.

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Phi 4:6 CSB)

The clear antidote to worry is prayer. This is for every situation. Take your needs to God. The apostles Paul and Peter both agree on this. Peter says “Humble yourselves before God… casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (2 Pet. 5:6-7). When panic rises up from within, it is because you are being overwhelmed by the fear and circumstances of the moment. Take a deep breath and remember you are not alone. God really does care for you. In that moment, talk with God. Tell Him how you feel. Thank Him for being in control. It might not feel that way now, but this is where faith comes in. Prayer is an act of faith. Ask God to give you His peace. Decide to wait on Him for the solution.

Jesus tells us to have an eternal perspective, saying, “…do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. For life is more than food and clothing” (Luke 12:22-23). God will provide! Worrying will not add a single hour to your life (12:25). Instead of worrying about ourselves, Jesus teaches us to “seek His kingdom” (12:31). Seek Jesus in this storm!

Humans worry most about the thing they treasure most. What is that for you? Is it your health? Your life? Your kids? Your house, job or car? Jesus says “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 12:34). Are you ready for Jesus? Have you made Him your treasure? If Jesus is your treasure, and you are in the habit of casting your cares and worries on Him, then you have found the secret to PEACE.

As the world panics around us, turn to Jesus, the Rock of Salvation, and let Him flood your heart with peace. The storms have come and gone before. Jesus is the anchor that holds–hold fast to Him.

There is work for you to do during these troublesome times. Worry and panic result in mistakes. Clear your mind by starting with Jesus. Give him your feelings and cares. Walk by faith by thanking Him for being in control. Ask him for wisdom and let him prepare you for what is next.

Go with God!
