Passage:  Ephesians 5:21-24

Big Idea:  Marriage in God’s design reveals unselfish love.


I. We are to submit to one another. (21)
            A. Submission is a fruit of being filled with the Spirit.
            B. Submission is considering others more than me.
            C.  Submission is to be voluntary.

II. Marriage needs to be rooted in submission to Christ. (22)
            A. The roles of husband and wife are complementary.
            B. Husband and wife belong to one another.
            C. A wife’s first duty is to live for Christ.

III. See marriage in light of Christ and His bride. (22-23)
            A. The husband is given the accountable role of headship.
            B. The wife is given the accountable role of partnership.
            C. Both must surrender the desire to control the other.
