The Good Father (Genesis 16)

Passage:  Genesis 16:1-16

Main Point:  Our good Father seeks the humble and trains them to trust.

I. Faith grows as we wait patiently for God. (1-3)
            A. Focusing on what you lack results in a bitter, thankless heart.
            B. Sarai’s solution was self-centered, not God-centered.
            C. Faith listens to God’s word.

II. Failure to trust in God results in a complicated mess. (4-6)
           
A. Losing control tempts us to blame and control others
            B. Some men become passive and abandon spiritual headship
            C. We can’t solve the problem by running away.

III. We are all called to repent of pride and submit to God. (7-16)
            A. Believe God cares for you and wants to carry your load
            B. Stop justifying yourself and finding your own way.
            C. Be humble and learn from how God is working in others.
            D. Submit to the God who made you.
