The First Resurrection (Revelation 20:1-10)

Passage:  Revelation 20:1-10

Main Point:  Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.

I. The enemy of God and creation is bound.   (1-3)
            A. A single angel seizes the dragon.  (Revelation 12:7-9; Jude 9)
            B. The one who lusted for power eats dust.  (Genesis 3:14-15; Isaiah 14:13-14;
                 Ezekiel 28:12-15)

II. The Messiah reigns as promised throughout Scripture.   (4-6)
            A. The saints are on thrones with the authority to judge.
                        1.  The believers from Adam to Christ are raised.
                        2.  The believers from the church age are raised.
                        3.  The believing martyrs from the tribulation are raised.
                        4.  The “rest of the dead” are unbelievers of all ages.
            B. The Messiah reigns for 1000 years.  (Jerimiah 23:5-6; Isaiah 11:1-9, 65:19-20)
            C. The resurrected reign and the mortal live in peace”.

III. One final rebellion ends the reign of evil.   (7-10)
            A. The enemy of God gains a large following.
                        1.  The earth is repopulated.
                        2.  The inhabitants are all mortal.
                        3.  Every person must make a decision to trust in Christ.
            B. Like the rest of history, the unbelievers attack believers.
            C. The enemy of God is judged finally and forever.

Conclusion:
            Everyone from every age and everywhere needs a Savior.

Additional Notes:
            This is the First Resurrection and it is really in three parts.  This is the Resurrection to LIFE.
                        Part A is the resurrection of Jesus.
                        Part B is the resurrection (rapture) of the church.
                        Part C is the resurrection of the martyrs from the tribulation.
            The Final Resurrection is to JUDGMENT.
