Passage:  2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

Main Point:  Stand firm, knowing you are rescued from sin, death and judgment.

I. End times revelation results in hope and peace. (1-5)
            A. Verse 1 refers to a single event.  (cf. 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 4:13-19)
            B. End times teaching should result in hope and peace.

            C. Believers are saved from the wrath of the tribulation. (cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:9)

II. Satan’s work is held back by the restrainer.  (6-7)
            A. Only God can limit the devil’s plans and work.
            B. The restrainer is the Holy Spirit.
            C. Restraining stops with the departure of the church.

III. I have victory in the Word and in the presence of Christ. (8-12)
            A. Resist deception with the truth of God’s Word.  (Ephesians 6:17)
            B. Anti-christ is “against” and “instead of” Christ.
            C. Lovers of “the lie” are given over to their sin.  (cf. Romans 1:18ff, 25)
            D. Lovers of Jesus are rescued from sin and judgment.
