The Crucifixion (Matthew 27:32-66)

Passage:  Matthew 27:32-66

Main Point:  The Hatred of God’s enemy poured out on Jesus.

I. The King is the Lamb who is offered for sin.  (32-44)
            A. The King bears the sins of His people.
            B. The people mocked the King who died for them.

II. The King is slain as atonement for sin.  (45-56)
            A. The sins of the world fall on Jesus.
            B. The miracles lead a centurion to see the truth.
                        1.  The curtain of the temple was split.
                        2.  The earth quaked and rocks split.
                        3.  The tombs were opened and saints were raised.

III. The King is buried and death seems to win.  (57-66)
            A. The King is buried in an unused tomb.
            B. The tomb is sealed, the guards are posted to keep the King in the tomb.
