Passage:  1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

Main Point:  God empowers us to turn from sin and teaches us to love one another.

I. Keep going on the road to living for Jesus.  (v.1-2)
            A. Jesus’ soon return should impact how I live today.
            B. How I live depends on whom I am pleasing.
            C. I need to hear the truth I’ve heard before.

II. God has specific purposes for purity. (v.3-8)
            A. God’s will is for me to become more like Him.
            B. Stay away from every sexual temptation.
            C. Victory begins with personally knowing God.
            D. Sexual sin hurts others and rejects God”.

III. We are “God-taught” to love one another. (v.9-12)
            A. Love more persistently and more consistently.
            B. Don’t be distracted—rest in God.
            C. Don’t be a distraction. (cf. Prov. 25:17.
            D. Be a blessing, not  burdensome.
            E. How we love each other puts Jesus on display.
