City of the Great King (Luke 19:28-44)

Passage:  Luke 19:28-44; Matthew 21:1-11; Matthew 23:37-39

Main Point:  We worship triumphantly because Jesus paid a mournful price.

I. On Palm Sunday Jesus mourned over people blinded by sin.
            A. Jerusalem has always been connected with worshiping God.   (Genesis 14:18-20; Psalm 76:1-2)
            B. We were also made to worship God.  (1 Corinthians 10:31)
            C. God chose Jerusalem and Abraham to bring people back to himself.

II. Jerusalem keeps falling because of sin.
           
A. True worship starts with a heart in need of a Savior.  (Psalm 51:17)
            B. The Roman destruction of Jerusalem was foretold by Jesus.
            C. Jerusalem is divided to this day.  (Zechariah 12:3, 10)


III. We look forward to Jesus’ real Triumphal Entry.
            A. Hearts that hope in eternity with Jesus will not be shaken.  (Hebrews 11:10, 16, 22; 1 Peter 1:3-9)
            B. Jesus will return and reign as the victorious King of Jerusalem.  (Revelation 19:11-16)
            C. We can worship Jesus in a new Jerusalem because of what he did in the old Jerusalem.  (Revelation 21:9-22:5)
