Passage: 1 Samuel 1:1-8

Main Idea: Moments of desperation remind me that I need God’s great salvation.

I. God faithfully directs salvation history.
      A. God promised a deliverer and king.
      B. We are lost in the anarchy of sinful self-rule. (cf. Jdg. 21:25)

II. Worship the Lord of Hosts. (1-3)
      A. Wait on God’s decree, not pedigree.
      B. Wait on God’s plan, not man.
      C. Wait on the One who rules and overrules.

III. In Christ alone I have a future and a hope. (4-8)
      A. See what God is doing.
      B. “Grace” does not play the blame-game.
      C. “Grace” does not seek a human fix.
      D. My greatest need was met at the cross.
