September 1, 2024
Passage:  Mark 7:1-23
Speaker:  Pastor Josh Holland
Main Point:  Jesus removes sin’s weary load so we can walk by faith, not works.

I. Stop doing life on your terms. (1-5)
            A. Self-focused living hates God.
            B. Stop saying you are a good person.
            C. Jesus did not come to save good people.

II. A relationship with God is not a job. (6-13)

A. Hypocrites look the part, without the heart.
            B. Selfishness kills relationship.
            C. Scripture, not tradition is the source of religious authority.

III. I need salvation that comes from outside myself. (14-23)
            A. Sin comes from within, from disobedience.  (cf. Jeremiah 17:9-10)
            B. Ceremonial laws were not for righteousness, but to teach about sin.
(cf. Galatians 3:24)
            C. We each need God to cleanse us of an evil heart.
