To Be Hopeful (1 Peter 5:6-14)

Passage:  1 Peter 5:6-14

Main Point:  Humble hearts holdfast to the living hope, Jesus Christ.

I. I should be humble. (v.6-7)
         A. It begins with an honest assessment of my need. (cf. v.5)
         B. Submitting to God is an act of faith.
         C. Hording worry will hurt me and others.
         D. Humility puts patience to practice.

II. I need to be watchful. (v.8-9)
         A. Satan is an accuser and deceiver.  (Zachariah 3:1-5; Revelation 12:9-11)
         B. I have what I need for my defense:  
                  1.  Bow before Jesus Christ.   (Psalm 2:11-12)
                  2.  The Word of God and prayer.   (Ephesians 6:17-18)
         C. I am not alone.

III. I can be hopeful. (v.10-14)
            A. The God of the universe gives me grace.
            B. God revealed his eternal perspective to me.
            C. I can have peace in turbulent times.
