Questions for Small Groups
The Incarnation of the Son of God
1. Last week we studied the eternal nature of Jesus’ as the Son of God. In this message we see that the prophecies of the Old Testament pointed toward the Eternal One becoming human. We discussed some examples. Can you take each of the three areas (prophecies, sacrifices, types) and provide an example that we did not use in the sermon?
2. Once the Messiah was born we learn from His life many proofs of His humanity. He was thirsty, hungry, etc. What can you add to this? Why is it important that we study the Biblical record of His humanity?
3. The work of Christ is directly related to His taking on humanity. How does He reveal the Father to us? What do you see in the life of Christ that portrays the Father? He also defeats the devil. Read all the verses for this topic listed on the sermon notes. Why does the Bible give such an emphasis to this point?
4. Discuss the role of Jesus as High Priest. Why does the Bible use the language “merciful?” What does this mean to us? He is also Head of Israel and of the Church. What is the difference? Can He be Head of both? Can you think of any earthly rulers who are heads of two empires?
5. Take some time to explore the last point of the notes. Read 1 Peter 2:21 again. What areas in your life are a struggle for you? Can you see in the life of Christ how He handled or would have handled that? Realize that His humanity was fully human so He did not use His deity to live a faithful life. Take some time together in prayer and ask the Lord to help you see through His life the walk of faith.
